Most are familiar with the sort of knowledge that is learned from books or lectures. Gnosis is different. Gnosis is a type of experiential knowledge – it is knowledge that can only be attained through direct experience.

Gnosticism (1st - 7th Century) The Birth of Christianity Retrieved from http://www.humanreligions.info/gnosticism.htmlGnosticism is an ancient religion stemming from the first century (approximately), and is an alternative messiah-religion that shares many features with Christianity. There were a huge number of Gnostic groups1,2, sharing a common set of core beliefs. An inferior angelic being created the Earth, and this being is a hindrance to spiritual development.

Was he married to Mary Magdalene? Were gospels destroyed that should have been in the Bible? Did Jesus talk to the cross on which he died and did the cross walk out of the tomb speaking? Was Judas a hero who alone of the disciples understood Jesus and, in betraying Him, was carrying out Christ's secret instructions?

Retrieved from https://library.scotch.wa.edu.au/ld.php?content_id=45331827The Wachowski brothers' 1999 hit release The Matrix draws on multiple religious traditions to establish its complex worldview. Two of the most prominent are Gnostic Christianity and Buddhism, which, like the Alm, pose humanity's fundamental problem and its solution in terms of ignorance and enlightenment. Because of ignorance, people mistake the "material" world for something real, but they may "wake up" from this dream with help from a guide who teaches them their true nature. @is article explores the Alm's pervasive allusions to Gnosticism and Buddhism, which in turn opens up the question of the Alm's overarching message and ultimate view of reality.
