A documentary detailing the closing years of Adam Goodes’ career has highlighted how the delay the AFL took in responding to booing compounded the racist treatment of the dual Brownlow Medallist.
The documentary The Final Quarter aired on Channel 10 on Thursday night.
It illustrated how Goodes was relentlessly booed throughout the final three seasons of his career, the media scrutiny that contributed to the targeting of the Swans great, and the AFL’s failure to step in early enough to stop it.
Indigenous Brownlow Medallist Gavin Wanganeen said the prolonged nature of the harassment, and how isolated Goodes had been, was particularly telling.
