In August last year a 56-year-old man killed Elijah Doughty while trying to recover a stolen motorbike. A Perth court found him not guilty of manslaughter, opting for the lesser charge of dangerous driving occasioning death. He's been sentenced to three years prison.

The man sentenced to three years’ jail for killing Kalgoorlie teenager Elijah Doughty has been granted parole after 19 months in prison.

The 56-year-old man, whose identity remains suppressed by the court, was approved for transfer out of Western Australia into another state last week.

A decision published by the Prisoners Review Board in WA says the man has been granted parole on the condition that he have no direct or indirect contact with Doughty’s family, that he not enter the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area where he lived for a number of years before his arrest, and that he attend programs including a “consequential thinking program”.

Aboriginal community members in the Australian town held signs that called for justice and read, “The Lives of Our Kids Matter.”
The court appearance of the alleged killer of Elijah Doughty, a 14-year-old Aboriginal boy found dead in the city of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia Monday was disrupted by angry protests Tuesday morning, local news reported.

The mayor of Kalgoorlie Boulder has urged the community to respectfully move on following the release of the man charged with the death of teenager Elijah Doughty.

The 56-year-old father-of-six, who remains unnamed due to a suppression order, was originally sentenced to a three-year term of imprisonment for one count of dangerous driving in July last year.
