Climate Change
- NASA. (2019). Graphic: The relentless rise of carbon dioxide Retrieved from https://climate.nasa.gov/climate_resources/24/graphic-the-relentless-rise-of-carbon-dioxide/Ancient air bubbles trapped in ice enable us to step back in time and see what Earth's atmosphere, and climate, were like in the distant past. They tell us that levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere are higher than they have been at any time in the past 400,000 years. During ice ages, CO2 levels were around 200 parts per million (ppm), and during the warmer interglacial periods, they hovered around 280 ppm (see fluctuations in the graph).
Transport
- Rethinkx. (n.d.) Executive Summary. Retrieved from https://www.rethinkx.com/executive-summaryWe are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history. By 2030, within 10 years of regulatory approval of autonomous vehicles (AVs), 95% of U.S. passenger miles traveled will be served by on-demand autonomous electric vehicles owned by fleets, not individuals, in a new business model we call “transport-as-a-service” (TaaS).
Marine Regeneration
- Lindsay, R & Dahlman Luann (2018). Climate Change: Ocean Heat Content. Retrieved from https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-ocean-heat-contentThe ocean is the largest solar energy collector on Earth. Not only does water cover more than 70 percent of our planet’s surface, it can also absorb large amounts of heat without a large increase in temperature. This tremendous ability to store and release heat over long periods of time gives the ocean a central role in stabilizing Earth’s climate system.
Renewable Energy
- Arena.(2018). What are distributed energy resources and how do they work?. Retrieved https://arena.gov.au/blog/distributed-energy-resources/According to the twentieth century model of energy distribution, large power plants fuelled by coal, hydro or gas, generated electricity that was distributed via a centralised grid. Now the picture has changed. Advancing technology has diversified the grid, adding new sources of energy generation and two-way power flows.
Regenerative Agriculture

Retrieved from https://www.ucsusa.org/food_and_agriculture/our-failing-food-system/industrial-agriculture/hidden-costs-of-industrial.html#.W1nHntIzaUlIndustrial agriculture is currently the dominant food production system in the United States. It's characterized by large-scale monoculture, heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and meat production in CAFOs (confined animal feeding operations). The industrial approach to farming is also defined by its heavy emphasis on a few crops that overwhelmingly end up as animal feed, biofuels, and processed junk food ingredients.
Circular Economy
- Ellen Macarthur Foundation. (2017). Retrieved from https://www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/circular-economy/conceptLooking beyond the current take-make-waste extractive industrial model, a circular economy aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits. It entails gradually decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources, and designing waste out of the system. Underpinned by a transition to renewable energy sources, the circular model builds economic, natural, and social capital.
