-
‘I live in the late twentieth century and this is my subject matter and what
influences my work. I’m informed every day by switching on the evening news, by
looking at the newspaper, by reading current art magazines, by observing events
around me – I think my work reflects this, and it therefore has a contemporary
presence. I certainly hope it does.’1

Exodust Crying Country - Fiona Hall
-
Tucked away in a cave-like space, under layers of ground in Mona, Museum of Old and New Art’s basement gallery, Exodust – Crying Country from Sydney-born and Hobart-based artist Fiona Hall, and AJ King, a Bigambul/Wakka Wakka cultural practitioner, is an immersive, dark experience. Lacking light, the exhibition envelopes the audience into its gloom, oppressing those who venture through the torched black forest of burnt trees and debris.

Wrong Way Time
-
This article presents an interview with Fiona Hall, the first Australian artist to exhibit at the new Australian Pavilion at the international architecture exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. Topics of the interview include the artworks of Fiona for the installation, "Wrong Way Time," such as the "All the King's Men," her impressions of the pavilion that was designed by architectural firm Denton Corker Marshall, and the challenges of the installation unveiled on May 6, 2015.
-
Fiona Hall reels people in with their first glance at her art work. This happens for a simple reason: she uses familiar materials as hooks. Camouflage fabric for young boys, brightly labelled sardine cans for those keen on retro, old clocks for the analogue crowd, or cooking pots for the foodie contingent. The wit and emotion, the fine detail and intelligence arrive more subtly.
