WHAT IS A MINERAL?

mineral is a naturally occurring solid substance that is formed in the Earth. It has a specific chemical composition(what it’s made of) and a crystalline structure (atoms arranged in a regular pattern).

WHAT IS MINING?

Mining is the process of extracting valuable minerals, metals, and energy resources from the Earth. These raw materials are then processed and used to produce energy, build infrastructure, manufacture goods, and support modern technology.

RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (REEs)

REEs, or Rare Earth Elements, are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements found in the Earth’s crust. They aren’t actually “rare” in terms of how much exists, but they are rarely found in concentrated amounts, which makes mining and extracting them difficult.

REEs are sometimes called the “vitamins of modern technology” because they are needed in small amounts, but are essential for many popular products, including:

Electronics – smartphones, computers, TVs, LED lights, headphones

Green technology – wind turbines, electric vehicles, solar panels, rechargeable batteries

Military & Aerospace – jet engines, lasers, radar
