Pre-recorded Video Lessons

Videos

Pre-recorded videos are useful for explicit teaching. A good video follows these conventions:

  • An instructional video should be longer than a song (3min).
  • Videos can of course be longer, however, they must combine various multimedia assets, such as images, video, audio, to make them engaging for students.
  • Do not expect your audience to pay attention if you are simply talking at them.
  • Apps available for creating videos include QuickTime, iMove, MS Teams and Explain Everything.
  • Given the internet constraints of some of our students it is essential to compress videos before sharing or uploading. Video compression can be done using Handbrake or Stream.
