Explain Everything is an app designed to help teachers break down the complexity of these concepts into instructional videos called vodcasts. Students are loving the vodcasts which include different levels of complexity, combinations of modalities and interactivity and can be viewed and reviewed at any time.

This tool is available throughout both the iPad and MacBook. This technology is crucial for those who have difficulties reading but can also prove beneficial for anyone when reviewing their own written work.

Our successful outcomes during the COVID-19 isolation was not about the technology; it was not about the integration team; it was all about Scotch College's long-held commitment to integrating technology solely to enrich the teaching and learning journey of every student. It is because the College has a clear vision for learning, has technology platforms that are familiar and utilised, and has invested in capacity building.

This year we have seen the progression of iPads with Apple Pencil support into Year 6 of the Middle School. This has provided our students and teachers with many new opportunities to explore their teaching and their learning and we highlight some of these here through the lens of Mathematics.

Many rich learning experiences are occurring each day in the Early Learning Centre and Junior School. While parents would love to be able to see them all, it is sometimes hard for the younger boys to articulate all they have done during that day. Many times, students will share one small activity, or even say "not much" when asked about their day on the car ride home.

We know that teen Social Media usage has increased and Tik Tok is a current app of choice. If you're afraid you've lost your boy to his 'significant others' in the Social Media space, there is hope. You can provide a buffer between kids and iffy content by watching or making videos together with your teen. Time to Talk Tik Tok! Your teen will be surprised that you are interested in Tik Tok and you'll be surprised when he engages in the conversation with you.

Evidence demonstrates effective note-taking methods such as Cornell (used by Scotch College) increases student comprehension and retention of information, by some estimates up to 80% (UTA, 1999). What is less understood is whether the typing or handwriting of notes influences the level of comprehension and retention. The critical stages of note-taking include recording and summarising material; but is typing or handwriting more effective than the other?

Office 365 is changing the way educators organise and teach in the classroom. This technology enables lessons to be more collaborative, interactive and enriched with embedded video, podcasts and surveys. At Scotch College this technology is integrated with tried and tested teaching strategies to maximise student engagement and learning. This integrated approach builds skills in research, communication, critical thinking and self-management, preparing the students for their digital futures.
